What’s Happening?
Charlotte Business Journal Managing Editor Erik Spanberg reports that the Coca-Cola 600 could have a notable guest. According to Spangberg, Charlotte Motor Speedway General Manager Greg Walter said “We are heading that the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, is making plans to attend our race this weekend.” WCNC’s Nick Carboni later confirmed the report.
- This would not be Trump’s first NASCAR race. He attended the 2020 Daytona 500 while campaigning for the 2020 Presidential election. He became the 4th sitting President to attend a NASCAR race, joining Ronald Reagan (1984 Firecracker 400), George H.W. Bush (1992 Firecracker 400), and George W. Bush (2004 Daytona 500), who all attended races while campaigning for re-election.
- In mid-March, Trump clinched the Republican nomination for the 2024 Presidential election. He is set to face Democratic Incumbent Joe Biden.
- Fans are very split on this news. Some are excited about it, but others are less enthusiastic.
