Yesterday, we asked our readers whether or not NASCAR should make a return to the Daytona International Speedway Road Course. This question elicited quite a reaction from the readers, so today we break down all sides that people took.

Many fans would be thrilled to see a return to the Daytona International Speedway Road Course. It is one of the most iconic road courses in the United States, and the NASCAR races held there were well-received by fans.
It’s also the home of NASCAR’s Corporate Headquarters. If any market could handle a lot of NASCAR races, it’s Daytona International Speedway. Some fans had some creative ways to implement the road course into the NASCAR schedule.
William Bragg, for example, came up with the idea of an All-Star Race on the Daytona Road Course. All three series on the track at the same time compete against each other, similar to a Rolex 24 IMSA race.
Bragg was not the only one who suggested this multi-class event. Derek suggested that as a week, but, he wanted it to be the Clash. The Daytona Road Course held the Clash in 2021, and the LA Coliseum has its’ contract for the Clash ending after this year.
Cameron made a controversial suggestion. Instead of the summer race at Daytona being on the oval, the race should be at the road course.
Ryan Vargas suggested an interesting idea. Daytona could host an Xfinity Series standalone weekend in the spring, and they could combine it into a festival weekend. The Rolex 24 has a similar atmosphere.
Not everyone was a fan of returning to the Daytona road course. Many fans mentioned that there are too many road courses on the schedule currently. There were as many as 7 road courses on the schedule in 2021, and that has slowly shrunk down to 5 road courses in 2024.
Xerx Ranstien was one of those who suggested that there are too many road courses on the schedule.
Tim Kessler says that there are too many road/street courses in NASCAR.
Kaleb L is asking for no more road courses.
The Daytona Road Course return would also add another race at Daytona. This means there would potentially be three races at Daytona in a season. That’s a lot of racing at one venue.
Moargun mentioned that as a reason not to go back to the Daytona Road Course. They also mentioned that the track was originally included under the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
One way to counteract that issue would be to make this race a Clash or an All-Star Race similar to what some who wanted to return to the track suggested. However, not everyone is on board with a race like this being at the Daytona Road Course.
Matt Tifft suggested that the Clash should be rotating between different markets. He also argues that the Daytona Road Course NASCAR races were not great.
Tifft is not the only one who suggested that the race track was just not exciting. Rafa says that he fell asleep watching the 2021 Clash.
While not specifically about the track, Daniel Wemhoener mentioned the racing product on road courses alongside there being too many road course races. The road course racing product with the Next-Gen car has been the subject of much scrutiny.
Could the Daytona Road Course produce a good race with the Next-Gen car? Maybe it could, but, the Next-Gen car has not been great on road courses. Races like Watkins Glen and Sonoma in 2023 were not received well by the fanbase.
