If going to a NASCAR race, do not get caught screaming these phrases. John Rizzo dives into the phrases that get under the skin of NASCAR fans, and how NASCAR fans should respond to them.

  • You’re just watching for the wrecks: While John admits that many fans do watch for the wrecks to some extent, it’s an oversimplification of everything there is to love about the sport. There are plenty of other things to watch for on race day, and those are also reasons people tune in.
  • It’s just rednecks driving in circles: This statement is just not true. NASCAR drivers come from all over the country, and NASCAR drivers race on ovals and road courses, not circles. Even then, John argues that oval racing is better in some aspects than road course racing.
  • F1 is better/more popular: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and fans should respect the opinions of those who prefer F1 to NASCAR. However, Formula One has one major problem, one driver dominated the last season while NASCAR has a variety of winners every week.
  • The Playoffs: The Playoffs are complicated and difficult to explain to casual fans. John has had quite the experience trying to explain this system to his friends.
  • NASCAR Isn’t a Real Sport: NASCAR drivers have to drive a massive hunk of metal at 200 miles per hour in a 150-degree cockpit with 8 layers of clothing. Oh, by the way, look at the athletes on pit road.

Which other phrases did we miss that NASCAR fans do not like to hear?
