Where Could Layne Riggs Be Racing in 2024?

Layne Riggs made quite the name for himself recently by winning the 2022 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Championship, and he also recorded an impressive top-10 finish at Las Vegas in the Xfinity Series for Kaulig Racing. Could Layne Riggs be moving up to racing full-time in 2024, and, if so, where could he go?

Xfinity Series: Kaulig Racing

Layne Riggs has run two races for Kaulig Racing this season, and his second outing was far better than his first outing. He qualified ninth and finished a solid 10th at Las Vegas, and that could go a long way toward him gaining a good reputation at the higher levels of the sport. Kaulig is certainly looking for someone to replace Daniel Hemric at least in the Xfinity Series, and maybe even Chandler Smith.

If Riggs can find the sponsorship necessary, then Kaulig could be a great spot for him. The question is whether or not Kaulig wants to take their chance full-time on someone with as little experience as Riggs. He only has three National Touring Series starts after all.

Truck Series: Spire Motorsports

Layne Riggs could continue to be a candidate for Spire Motorsport’s number 7 Truck heading into 2024. However, Spire Motorsports has not yet announced how they will approach the Truck Series in 2024. Riggs’ best Truck Series run came at IRP with Spire earlier this season.

If he does run in the Truck Series next season, Riggs probably wants to be somewhere he is familiar with. He also wants to be somewhere he can win races. Maybe Spire cannot offer him a full-time ride, but they can maybe offer him a few races.

Xfinity Series: Joe Gibbs Racing

A longshot this may be, but Riggs has Toyota connections given his experience with TRICON Garage. Joe Gibbs Racing has two cars open for 2024, but they also have an all-star car with the 19. If a full-time gig does not work out, then a part-time gig may work out.

However, there is a lot of competition for this ride. Riggs is probably low on the list of potential candidates just because of his lack of experience. Then again, maybe his performance at Las Vegas could convince someone at JGR to give him a chance.

Truck Series: TRICON Garage

TRICON Garage has one seat for 2024 certainly filled with Corey Heim returning. However, Heim was the only TRICON Garage driver to make the Playoffs this year, so, what awaits the team in 2024? Riggs did run one for the team at Atlanta finishing 28th.

That was not a great performance, but it was a superspeedway. Maybe TRICON could give Riggs some part-time starts on short tracks since that is where he drives his best. Again, full-time may not be in the cards here, but maybe a part-time seat.

Xfinity Series: Alpha Prime

If there is another Xfinity Series team that could run Riggs on a part-time schedule, Alpha Prime is a car that has run multiple drivers for the most part. Next year they are bringing Ryan Ellis on full-time, and they seem to have their 2024 plans locked down for another car as well. What about that third car?

Riggs may not be a full-time candidate for this car, but a part-time gig could work out. His solid run at Las Vegas shows that there is definitely some skill there, and he has proven he can run up front in the Xfinity Series. However, is this the right place for him?

Could Layne Riggs be racing in one of these cars for 2024? Each of these rides offers some interesting opportunities for Riggs.

Lionel Racing Reveals First Wave of 2026 NASCAR Authentics Diecast

What’s Happening?

Lionel Racing finally confirmed the first wave of 2026 NASCAR Authentics 1:64 scale diecast for Monday morning, with the line of retail-exclusive diecast featuring a new look for the new year.

  • This line will include six throwback paint schemes from NASCAR’s 2025 throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway. Though they did not release one in 2025, this move restarts an annual tradition of Lionel releasing at least one wave of cars carrying the colors of that prior season’s throwback designs.
  • Included in this wave of cars are Austin Cindric, Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, William Byron, and Sammy Smith. Alongside these paint schemes’ debuts in the Authentics line is a new design for the packaging of the 2026 line of NASCAR Authentics.
  • Last season was somewhat turbulent for Lionel as, alongside issues with tariffs, the brand only released three waves of NASCAR Autentics, one wave of NASCAR Autentics Winners Circle diecast, and two waves of Haulers.
  • Lionel announcing the first wave of 2026 early on in the new year is perhaps a sign that 2026 could return this line to its regular release schedule. The post from Lionel Racing also confirmed that the brand will announce another wave by the end of the week, further hinting at a recommitment to the Authentics line.

Chase Pistone, NASCAR Trucks and Nationwide Series Driver, Passes Away

What’s Happening?

Chase Pistone, a former competitor on the short track racing circuit in addition to NASCAR’s National Series, has passed away. Pistone, now a successful Legends Car owner, was 42.

  • Chase’s brothers Nick and Tom Pistone confirmed the North Carolina natives’ passing to LegendsNation.com. The cause of Pistone’s passing is unknown. The family asked that media share the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline number, which is 988.
  • Pistone, the grandson of NASCAR legend “Tiger” Tom Pistone, made his way to NASCAR after competing on short tracks in Legends cars and Late Models. He would make his jump to NASCAR via the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2005, racing for Green Light Racing at Martinsville Speedway.
  • Pistone would continue his NASCAR pursuits in 2006, racing in ARCA and the NASCAR Busch Series. Unfortunately, these two starts, at Martinsville with the Busch Series and Iowa with ARCA, would be his last for nearly a decade.
  • Pistone returned to NASCAR in 2014, racing in a combined eight NASCAR Camping World Truck and Nationwide Series races. During this season, his final in NASCAR, the then 30-year-old scored his best National Series finish, ninth place in the Truck Series annual trip to Gateway.

8 Takeaways From NASCAR At COTA

Three races in, the 2026 season is finally starting to show its hand. COTA shifted narratives, exposed weaknesses, and raised new questions about contenders, pretenders, and everything in between.

  • Has Shane van Gisbergen officially been proven mortal after getting outraced late at Circuit of the Americas?
  • Is 19-year-old Connor Zilisch already ahead of schedule after slicing through the field multiple times?
  • With three straight wins, is Tyler Reddick basically a lock for the postseason this early?
  • And how concerned should the 48 team be after a rough weekend for Alex Bowman?

From substitute drivers being forced into action to points gaps growing faster than expected, COTA delivered more than just a road course chess match. There were momentum swings, reputation hits, and at least one young driver stacking up enemies before stacking up results.
