There has been a whole lotta nothing in NASCAR Gaming News over recent weeks. Many speculated that last weekend could be the weekend that something happened, but nothing has happened. It has raised many questions about what the future is with Motorsport Games and the NASCAR video game license. What do we know so far, and what has been speculated?
What We Know So Far
Quite frankly, we do not know much of anything about the current state of the NASCAR video game license. We know that Hunter Cooke of Sports Business Journal reported that NASCAR’s Managing Director of Gaming and Esports said there would be a “Substantial announcement” regarding console video games.
We also know that Motorsport Games was in discussions with a “third party” to sell the NASCAR license according to their second-quarter earnings report. No specifics were named in terms of what that third party could be from either NASCAR or Motorsport Games.
Aside from that, no specifics were given from either party as is their right. They are both their own businesses, and they have a right to keep specifics on these talks private. Therefore, until there is something that is worthwhile for them to announce, they are going to keep quiet.
What Has Been Speculated
There have been some unconfirmed reports regarding Motorsport Games and their place in the NASCAR gaming landscape. One date that was floated around was September 30th as originally reported by Alan Bailey. Many people floated this date around on social media as a date where something could happen.
Well, September 30th came and went, and nothing happened. In fairness, neither NASCAR nor Motorsport Games made any sort of announcement regarding September 30th. However, there was one other Tweet that mentioned September 30th.
NASCARagous turned out to be correct that there was no major announcement on September 30th, but he also reported some game studios that are reportedly inquiring about the NASCAR license. Again, there is no official word from NASCAR or Motorsport Games on this, so, this is just a rumor for now. However, it could be reasonable to infer that maybe the discussions with other game companies are taking longer to finalize.
However, Motorsportgames.com still showcases NASCAR as one of their licenses on their landing page, so, maybe nothing ultimately happened on that day. Again, nothing official came from NASCAR or Motorsport games on this report either. Therefore, it seems that there is just nothing to announce for right now.
What Do We Know About the Future?
A whole lotta nothin’. That is the bottom line. We have no confirmation from either NASCAR or Motorsport Games as to what is actually happening.
It seems there is just nothing to announce at this time. They have a right as businesses to keep their dealings private until they see fit, and, unless there is something of substance to announce they will keep it under wraps. Right now, we know nothing, and we will just have to wait and see.
