What’s Happening?
Following the conclusion of the 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, Chase Purdy confirmed that he will not return to Spire Motorsports in 2025. His departure leaves the No. 77 truck open at a premier team in the Truck Series. So, let’s take a look at the rumors and options Spire has for 2025.
Who Are The Current (Confirmed) NASCAR Free Agents
What’s Happening? The 2025 NASCAR season is right around the corner, however, there are still names on the free agent market….
Andres Perez
The reigning ARCA Menard Series Champion, Andrés Pérez, makes a solid case for this open ride coming off a campaign in which he averaged a 6.5 finish. Pérez also made the most of his Truck Series debut with Spire at WWT Raceway, finishing ninth in the team’s No. 7 entry.
However, his ties to REV Racing and the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program could push him to take over for Nick Sanchez in the No. 2 truck. Sanchez took the same route to the truck series and is heading off to Xfinity next season.
Kaz Grala
Kaz Grala is coming off an odd season in which he ran part-time for Rick Ware Racing in their No. 15 car. However, that charter is perhaps off the books for 2025, as RFK Racing is leasing a charter from RWR for their new No. 60 entry.
Grala joins the fold thanks to the nascarrumornostalgia Instagram account. This account has a solid track record of spreading rumors about the NASCAR circuit and suggested on Nov. 4 that both Perez and Grala could head to Spire.
While this makes sense for Grala, it doesn’t match Spire’s short reputation for signing young drivers like Purdy and Caruth to drive their machines. Grala, while a veteran, is only 25 and highly touted, so the team may not be heavily factoring age into the decision.
Anthony Alfredo
Ryan Preece Joins RFK in Expanded 3rd Car for 2025
What’s Happening? After months of speculation, RFK Racing announced on Tuesday morning that it will expand to three full-time cars for…
Anthony Alfredo is in a similar spot to Grala. In 2025, Kris Wright will drive his ride at OUR Motorsports, leaving Alfredo on the free-agent market with less than 100 days to Daytona.
Alfredo’s story is similar to Grala’s, going from highly touted to journeyman but never taking a real shot at the Truck Series. Perhaps it could be a solid move for both the team and the driver.
However, sponsorship could be an issue for Alfredo as longtime Dude Wipes stopped sponsoring the No. 5 after the August race at Daytona. While this does not mean they are off the books completely, it is not a good sign for Anthony.
Corey Day
Corey Day makes an interesting case for consideration at Spire as he is one of the hottest young sprint car racers on earth. Day made his debut in late models, Trucks, and ARCA last season and showed solid skill in those starts.
None of these starts were with Spire but with Hendrick Motorsports’ associated team, JR Motorsports, in a late model. Rather, he raced for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing with HendrickCars.com. Spire has deep ties to HMS, and this could push Day into the No. 77 next season.
However, this could conflict with his dirt racing, leaving the young driver at a crossroads in his career.
