What’s Happening?

The NASCAR Playoffs enters its final intermediate track of the year at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. Fans love Homestead and are excited for the triple-header weekend, but could tricky coastal weather factor into this weekend’s events?

  • Homestead-Miami Speedway is a favorite of drivers and fans. The 1.5-mile oval debuted in 1995 and is NASCAR’s southernmost track. This is the track’s third year back in the NASCAR Playoffs. However, its date will shuffle to the spring of 2025.
  • The NASCAR Cup Series first raced at Homestead in 1999, and in 2001, the track shifted to being the series finale, a spot it held until 2019.
  • The NASCAR Xfinity Series first raced at Homestead in 1995. The track hosted the series finale from its first race until 2020.
  • The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series first raced at Homestead in 1995. The series hosted a spring race at the track until shifting its finale to Homestead in 2002. Like the other NASCAR National Series, the Truck Series moved its finale away from Miami in 2020 and failed to host a race at the track in 2021, breaking an over 20-year streak of races.

Homestead-Miami Speedway Weather History

NASCAR has quite the good luck streak for weather at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Of the last ten NASCAR Cup Series races at the South Florida race track, only one race, in 2020, saw bad weather affect the race. Of course, if the track does see a delay this year, it has light if the race were to push into the nighttime. However, with the high speeds at Homestead, rain tires are completely off the table.
