Bayne will drive the team’s No. 1 truck, joining fellow part-timers Brandon Jones, Brent Crews, Lawless Alan, and William Sawalich in doing so this season. This season, these drivers have amassed one top five and six top tens in 18 starts, with Jones scoring the truck’s best finish of fourth at Pocono in June.
This is Bayne’s first attempt at starting a NASCAR race since the September 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff race at Texas Motor Speedway. That season, Bayne raced part-time with Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series and made a one-off start with Rackley W.A.R. in the Truck Series.
Prior to 2023, Bayne had not made a start since 2020, when he entered eight races with Niece Motorsports, scoring one top five and two top tens.
This stint ended his absence from NASCAR following his release from the then Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the 2018 season. During his stint with Roush from 2015 to 2018, Bayne failed to meet lofty goals set by his performance in the Xfinity Series and his underdog Daytona 500 win in 2011.
Eleven races into that season, Roush opted to bring in Matt Kenseth to share the ride with Bayne for the remainder of the season, with Bayne making 21 starts and Kenseth behind the wheel for 15.
Since his last start in 2023, Bayne has moved into a pit reporting role for Prime Video’s NASCAR broadcasts and serves in a front office role as Legacy Motor Club’s Driver Optimization Leader.
