When NASCAR introduced its Next Gen, or Generation 7, racecar in 2022, several teams began fielding part-time entries. Among these were newly expanded Trackhouse Racing, which entered the No. 91 for the first time at Watkins Glen with driver Kimi Räikkönen.
As more top teams entered part-time cars, the No. 91 remained at the top of the heap, fielding racing legends from diverse forms of racing. However, the car did not participate in a race in 2024 and has not been seen since the 2025 Daytona 500.
But, a new report from Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal claims that the Project91 Program is far from dead, with team owner Justin Marks telling Stern he would “bet on” a return for the No. 91 in 2026.
Furthermore, the driver-turned-owner also claimed that Trackhouse is “pretty close” to finalizing the car’s 2026 plans, perhaps suggesting a second attempt at the Daytona 500 for the No. 91.
A Recent History of Project91
Since its introduction in 2022, the No. 91 car has stood out in a crowded field of non-chartered entries in the Next Gen Era.

- Wins: 1
- Top 5: 1
- Top 10: 2
- Average Finish: 20.2

Not only did the car give the former Formula One World Champion Räikkönen his long-awaited NASCAR debut at Watkins Glen, but it brought Shane van Gisbergen to a NASCAR audience and gave IndyCar legend Hélio Castroneves his first NASCAR start this past season.
Although the car did not have the most productive Daytona 500, the entry left fans hungry for more; the No. 91 would not return, as 2026 NASCAR Rookie of the Year candidate Connor Zilisch would take over the role of fourth driver for Trackhouse in 2025, entering four races in the new No. 87.
These starts for Zilisch were notable, as the car was sponsored by returning brand Red Bull. Not only did Red Bull ride with Trackhouse last year, but according to a report from Stern, the brand could increase its support for the team in 2026.
