The NASCAR Playoffs have more wild card factors than ever before. Nearly each year there are a few drivers that either missed the Playoffs or were eliminated from them that win or influence the Playoff grid. Today we are going to look at em and see in broad strokes and in depth which ones we have seen before. These are the 3 Types Of NASCAR Playoff Upsets/Spoilers.
- The playoffs are a time when anyone can win. Sometimes, people win, and it completely changes the entire championship, and other people win, and it doesn’t really matter. Do you have any races that you think are mundane upsets?
- Another kind of upset is when someone changes how the championship picture looks, but not for themselves, like when Kasey Kahne won in Phoenix in 2011 while Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart were battling behind him in this set up one of the greatest championship races of all time. Is there any other what could’ve been upsets that you know of?
- The last kind of upset is the most impactful. It involves people who can change the entire championship for themselves and the entire field. For example, Matt Kenseth at Martinsville in 2015 took out Joey Logano, who was fighting for a championship 4 position. Do you think this playoff format gives drivers more opportunities to change the championship?
