What’s Happening?
Following the hasty departure of Crew Chief Rodney Childers, Spire Motorsports is bringing on their current Competition Director, Ryan Sparks, as Crew Chief of Justin Haley’s No. 7 for this weekend’s race at Talladega.
As a follow up to yesterday's news, Ryan Sparks will return to the pit box as crew chief for Justin Haley and the No. 7 team for the duration of the 2025 season.

Sparks will once again serve in a dual role as Crew Chief and Director of Competition. https://t.co/czUZg6q0cb
- Sparks moved to the role of Competition Director this season after several seasons as the Crew Chief of the No. 7. He previously worked at Go Fas Racing, following driver Corey LaJoie to Spire in 2021.
- In his five seasons, he has called the shots for the No. 7 Sparks team and scored three top fives and nine top tens. During this time, Sparks mostly worked with Corey LaJoie but was on top of the box for Justin Haley’s seven races last season after the team swapped drivers with Rick Ware Racing.
- Sparks takes over for former NASCAR Cup Series Championship-winning Crew Chief Rodney Childers. Childers and Spire mutually parted ways yesterday, just nine races into his tenure at Spire. Through those races, Childers and Haley scored just one top-ten and averaged 23rd place.
- This has been a disappointing start for the new era of Spire Motorsports; the team overhauled two of its three cars at the tail end of last season and into the start of this season. Alongside Childers’ premature departure, No. 7 Car Chief Robert “Cheddar” Smith recently left the team for Joe Gibbs Racing.
