What’s Happening?
A recent podcast episode has race fans wondering if NASCAR Xfinity Series points leader Connor Zilisch could make his Australian Supercars debut later this season.
The NASCAR and Australian Supercars crossovers continue to grow. This season, names like Cam Waters, Jack Perkins, and Will Brown have raced across NASCAR’s three National Series, and later this year, Team Penske’s Austin Cindric will make his Supercars debut at Adelaide.
Is Austin Cindric Headed for Supercars Action?
What’s Happening? Team Penske’s Austin Cindric is looking to make his Australian Supercars debut later this season, per a new report. According…
Initially, Cindric wasn’t the first NASCAR regular to have this plan, as his Chevrolet counterpart, Kyle Larson, was set to race in the event as well prior to the deal falling through prior to its announcement. For now, it appears that Ford will be the only OEM with NASCAR representation at Adelaide in November, but a recent podcast episode is raising questions of a Chevrolet counter.
During the September 6 episode of Lucky Dogs, hosted by Supercars stars Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki, Brown, a fellow Red Bull Athlete, mentioned that he had been questioned about Connor Zilisch making an appearance at Adelaide during his time racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series a few weeks ago.
“A few people asked us, like, ‘Oh, is Connor actually coming out and doing a wild card here?'” Brown said.
Though these are just murmurs, if Chevrolet wanted to send a NASCAR talent to Adelaide in a counter move to Cinidric and Ford, the road course ace, and Xfinity Series points leader, would be a great choice.
However, as always, this is just a rumor and should be approached with caution, as both Brown and Kostecki said that prior to this, they had not heard anything about Zilisch attempting the race. Nonetheless, the thought of the 19-year-old Trackhouse Racing superstar racing outside the U.S. is exciting.
This season, Zilisch has won four of the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ seven road course races, with one remaining at the Charlotte Roval. Throughout a handful of these starts, and three NASCAR Cup Series starts, Zilisch has gone head-to-head with Supercars legend and his 2026 Trackhouse Racing NASCAR Cup Series teammate, Shane van Gisbergen.
In their three head-to-head road course races in the Xfinity Series, Zilisch is a two-time winner, raising questions as to whether or not he would be competitive in a Supercar.
While there is little talk beyond Brown’s comments that Zilisch will race at Adelaide, if he were to race, his efforts could be similar to his Cup Series outings, showing speed, but with a steep learning curve ahead of him. At press time, no team, nor Zilisch, has announced its intentions to compete in the supercars race at Adelaide.
