What’s Happening?

A new rumor claims that Chevrolet might debut a new NASCAR Cup Series body style at an upcoming test.

Since Chevrolet gave the axe to the Camaro production line, its NASCAR Cup Series body style seems like a relic of the past. Chevrolet introduced the Camaro ZL1 in 2018 as a replacement for the Chevrolet SS, and despite a shift to the ZL1 1LE in 2020, the body has remained the same ever since.

That is, except for one change, prior to the start of this season, NASCAR removed the Camaro branding from the Xfinity and Cup Series, changing to the Chevrolet wordmark, while maintaining the Camaro body.

While changes were on the horizon, it was unclear what these would be, with Chevrolet no longer having a suitable production car to take its place. But, throughout the 2025 season, rumors have claimed that an updated body could be out for 2026, and, per a new rumor, an unidentified body could be on the way.

In a post on Instagram Thursday afternoon, a well-known rumor mill account claimed that an October 20 ECU and wiring harness test at the Charlotte Roval, featuring Cup Series teams from all three NASCAR OEMs, could also mark the first public appearance of a new Chevrolet body style for the NASCAR Cup Series.

However, the account did note that this is only if “Chevy can get the body panels out to everyone in time.”

What Is the Likelihood of This Rumor?

As with any rumor, it is important to approach this with caution, as even if this is true, things can always change. Nonetheless, change for Chevrolet has seemed imminent for some time.

Since the news about the end of the Camaro production line, NASCAR has not pushed Chevrolet to change. This could be due to a number of factors, but their limited choices for a production car replacement are likely at the top of that list of hypothetical reasons.

But this change is not likely to be a major one, as other rumors suggest it will be an update to the current, and generally branded, body.

In May, this same account said that Chevrolet planned to introduce an “updated ‘Camaro’ body” in 2026.

This followed comments in March from the Executive Director of Global Motorsports Competition at GM, Eric Warren, who told V8 Sleuth that Chevy has fans who “are passionate about buying those cars and driving them, but we also have a large number of fans that have allegiance to the bowtie, the Chevrolet.”

At the time, many took this comment to suggest that GM views Chevy fans as loyal to the company, not the car model, and perhaps, in the future, beyond an update to the Camaro, an overhauled Chevy body could continue to hold this generic branding.

At press time, there is no indication that Chevrolet will go this route, beyond the V8 Sleuth claiming Warren says future cars in NASCAR and V8 Supercars will be Chevrolets and not the heavily speculated Cadillac.

Furthermore, while fans could see the updated body at this on-track test in the coming weeks, neither Chevrolet nor its NASCAR Cup Series teams has confirmed the existence of an updated body, nor when it could debut.
