What’s Happening?

The NASCAR Cup Series Playoff Round of 12 opener at New Hampshire Motor Speedway drew a shocking 1.290 million viewers, making it, thus far, the lowest-viewed race of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Season by a narrow margin.

Compared to last year’s race at New Hampshire, which was race 18 of the season, in June, and scored 1.880 million viewers, this year’s race saw a 31.8% drop off in total viewers. This is even more notable when the weather conditions from last year’s race are factored in, with that 1.880 being the fifth-lowest viewed race last season.

The viewership from this past Sunday is even more bleak when compared to the 2024 Round of 12 opener at Kansas. While this race was also the lowest-viewed points race last season, it was far from the lowest-viewed NASCAR event (the 2024 Clash) and still drew 1.794 million viewers, 0.504 million more than New Hampshire did on Sunday.

That 2024 Clash, which was abruptly moved up a day due to an incoming weather event, drew 1.511 million viewers, 0.221 million more than this past Sunday’s playoff race. The closest competition to New Hampshire so far this season was the Richmond night race, which drew 1.390 million viewers on USA, 0.100 million more than this past Sunday.

Regardless, a drop-off in viewers is common around this time of year. Since the regular season for college and professional football kicked off on August 23, 2025, NASCAR viewership has dropped as expected.

The five races prior to this date drew a combined 9.872 million viewers, and the five races since have a combined 9.528 million viewers, though there are outside factors such as networks and Saturday night races.

Notably, Sunday’s race also ran concurrently with the memorial service of political activist Charlie Kirk.

Nonetheless, the first four races of the 2025 Playoffs are down just 1.263 million viewers compared to the first four races of the 2024 Playoffs. For any and all information on NASCAR viewership in 2025, make sure to check out our tracker linked below.
