What’s Happening?
The checkered flag has waved for the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series at Phoenix Raceway. The first race of the 2026 abbreviated West Coast Swing is officially in the books. Considered the first “real” race of the campaign, it gave us a little bit better sample size as to where everyone is. At the end of it all, it was Phoenix Ace, Justin Allgaier, who was left standing tall as your race winner. This marked the second win in a row for JR Motorsports. Additionally having great points days were Jesse Love, Sheldon Creed, Carson Kvapil, and Sammy Smith. Here are the biggest takeaways from the GOVX 200 at Phoenix Raceway.

Notes
- Pole sitter, Taylor Gray, who is historically pretty good on short flat ovals, led the opening 10 laps. That was until he fell prey to Jesse Love, who is having a great start to the 2026 season. But fading on the longer run of Stage 1, Love lost the lead to Sammy Smith. Smith went on to win the opening stage of the race. Love, Allgaier, Kvapil, J. Burton, Day, Creed, and Jones were among the drivers receiving stage points.
- As the second stage commenced, Jesse Love went on to reclaim his lead. He led the majority of the stage on his way to win it. Coming alive at this point in the race, though, was Carson Kvapil, who started to show race-winning speed as the sun set and track temperatures cooled. Earning stage points in the second stage include Love, Kvapil, Allgaier, Smith, J. Burton, Gray, Creed, and Clements.
- It was a clean race with a hard-nosed battle for the lead between Carson Kvapil and Jesse Love. It was shaping up to be a battle to the finish, a game of cat-and-mouse. But a caution shook things up. On Lap 165, we got our first caution for an incident when Lavar Scott had an issue on the inside of the backstretch.
- The second and final caution for the incident occurred on Lap 178. This saw Brandon Jones come down on Sammy Smith, not knowing that the No. 8 was there. This got the 20 out of shape. He spun in front of the field, collecting his JGR teammates, Taylor Gray and William Sawalich.
- For the final restart of the race, the Haas duo of Sheldon Creen and Sam Mayer led the field to the green with 14 laps remaining. An afterthought for much of the race, they were unable to maintain the point. Justin Allgaier and Jesse Love rocketed out front with Carson Kvapil creeping in from behind them. It was clear in the closing laps that Kvapil had the better car. But a bad restart put him out of contention for the win, handing it over to his teammate, Phoenix ace, Justin Allgaier. It was his third career win at Phoenix and the 29th win of his career. With this win, Justin Allgaier has won at least one race in ten consecutive seasons. That’s the best all-time.
- Jesse Love clocked the Xfinity Fastest Lap. This earned him 1 bonus point.
