- Rather than full-time driver Garrett Smithley, SS GreenLight is bringing on journeyman driver Josh Bilicki to pilot their No. 14 car. This is not the first time that the team has handed over the reins to the No. 14 for a race this season. The team has done so twice, including the most recent race at Nashville Superspeedway with Logan Bearden behind the wheel.
- Back in March, Smithley posted a video on his X account announcing Carson Hocevar would take his place at Circuit of the Americas, with Smithley admitting, “I’m not the best road racer.” This arrangement did not go as planned, as Hocevar, a full-time Cup Series driver, crashed out of the race only three laps in.
- Bilicki, a 30-year-old series veteran, will be making his ninth start of the season. In total, Bilicki has a career of 115 starts in the Xfinity Series, with a best finish of eighth at the Charlotte Roval. In fact, of Bilicki’s four career top-ten finishes, three have come on road courses.
- This weekend, the series will face a new challenge in familiar territory as it takes on Mexico City’s Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Though they have raced there in the past, this year’s race will be on a 2.417-mile, 14-turn layout, compared to the 2.518-mile, 8-turn layout they raced on from 2005 to 2008.
