What’s Happening?
In a shocking twist to NASCAR’s new in-season tournament, it was revealed that the car owner, rather than the drivers, will be awarded prize money for winning the tournament.

- This does leave room for the winning car owner to distribute the money to their team as they please. Nonetheless, several fans on X are displeased with this decision, with users like @TeaMooSalami suggesting, “It should go to the driver and team who pits and preps the car.”
- According to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, this decision was made prior to the start of the $1 million tournament. Much like the All-Star Race, most fans expected the money would go to the drivers participating in the five-race tournament.
- While the tournament has been received moderately well, fans have complained about several factors, including the seeding process and the chaotic schedule of races. That chaotic schedule, including a 2.5-mile finale, drafting track, two road courses, and a short track, has resulted in an unlikely finale for this Sunday: Ty Dillon, the last-seeded driver, versus Ty Gibbs.
- NASCAR introduced this head-to-head tournament as part of its new TV Deal. The entirety of the 32-driver “In-Season Challenge” (except for the three qualifying races on Prime Video) has been broadcast on returning TV partner TNT. TNT has taken its coverage of the event seriously, including an ‘AltCast’ on TruTv with Larry McReynolds and Jeff Burton focusing solely on the bracket during race day.
