- Mears debuted in the NASCAR National Series in 2001, making his first start in the 2001 NASCAR Xfinity Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Now, 598 National Series starts later, Mears will enter his first-ever Truck Series race 8749 days after he first raced in NASCAR.
- The 47-year-old made his return to NASCAR this season with MBM’s Garage 66 Cup Series program as part of a personal goal to reach 600 career NASCAR starts. So far, Mears has entered two races, but plans to enter the final three races of the season with Garage 66, starting this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.
- If Mears makes the Truck Series Race at Martinsville, it will be his 600th career race. Though in the unlikely event that he were to miss this race, Mears has the insurance for that Sunday’s Cup Series race and the season finale the following week to push him over the mark.
- Mears raced in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time and part-time from 2003 to 2016, before returning for a one-off in 2019 and subsequently making multiple starts this season. Throughout his time, Mears won in both of NASCAR’s top two divisions, winning in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Chicagoland in 2006 and in the Cup Series at Charlotte in 2007.
