What’s Happening?
For the first time in a decade, a member of the Wallace family will make a start in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2025. Mike Wallace, brother of Kenny and former Cup Series Champion Rusty Wallace, will enter the Daytona 500 with MBM Motorsports.
- Wallace made his last NASCAR Cup Series start in 2015 in the No. 66 for Premium Motorsports. In this Daytona 500, Wallace qualified a solid 16th but finished 36th, four laps down.
- MBM Motorsports, an underdog, “open,” part-time team owned by former driver Carl Long, now enters the No. 66 in the NASCAR Cup Series. In 13 races in 204, MBM had a best finish of 28th with Josh Bilicki at the Chicago Street Circuit.
- Wallace, now 65 years old, started 809 NASCAR National Series races in his career and 197 NASCAR Cup Series races. He has won five races in the Truck Series, four in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and has a best career finish of second in the Cup Series. However, he has one win in each lower series at Daytona.
- However, Wallace has 11 career starts in the Daytona 500, spanning from 1994 to 2015. His average finish in the 500 is 23.9, and he scored his best finish in the Great American Race in 2005, finishing fourth.
- While winning the race seems like a long shot for this combination, a solid finish would be one of the best underdog stories in recent NASCAR history.
