What’s Happening?

After rescheduling its preseason Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, NASCAR is prepared to break out the wet-weather tires for Wednesday’s event should poor weather in the area persist.

This past week has seen NASCAR forced to reschedule its preseason clash event three times due to weather conditions in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The race weekend was initially scheduled to kick off Saturday, with four practice sessions qualifying drivers for four heat races, with the event then pushing into Sunday for a last chance qualifying race and the feature race that night.

But, with winter storms hitting the area hard throughout the weekend, NASCAR initially canceled track events for Saturday, moving to a single-day event on Sunday.

Though the storms were much stronger than planned, with NASCAR pushing the race to Monday, and ultimately settling on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, NASCAR can’t seem to escape the weather, as the National Weather Service is reporting a 40% chance of precipitation in the area when practice is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday at 1:00 PM EST.

Even though this weather is expected to last till 6 PM EST, the freezing temperatures will subside, and, per Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports, NASCAR is willing to break out its Wet Weather Tires to ensure the race still happens.

While this may not be ideal, it is somewhat of a guarantee that NASCAR is focused on getting the exhibition race in.

Breaking Down the Clash Changes

With all the schedule changes to the Clash, NASCAR was forced to rework the format for this year’s events.

Wednesday, February 4th: PRACTICE/QUALIFYING – LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER RACE – CUP SERIES RACE

  • 4:30 PM | Last Chance Qualifier Race on FOX
  • 6:00 PM | Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on FOX

As of last Thursday, the four heat races were cancelled, and the four practice sessions will now determine who is sorted into the main event and who is sent to the Last Chance qualifier.

Of the 38 entrants in the races, the top 20 fastest in the practice sessions will sort into the feature race on Wednesday night, with the final 18 battling it out for two spots in the last chance qualifier.

However, the format changes stop here, as the last chance qualifier will continue as planned, with the top two finishers, alongside the remaining final driver with the highest 2025 points standing, making the 23-driver Cook Out Clash.
