What’s Happening?
On Wednesday, The Wood Brothers officially announced Josh Berry as the team’s new driver for 2025, replacing Harrison Burton. Berry, still a Cup Series rookie, joins the team after his current team, Stewart-Haas Racing, announced it will shut down at the end of 2025. Berry’s current crew chief, Rodney Childers, was not seen at the press conference, meaning the two will probably not stay together beyond 2024. Multiple reports indicate it is a multi-year contract.
- Josh Berry has impressed this season for Stewart-Haas Racing, leading the Rookie of the Year standings and recording four top-10 finishes in the first 19 races of the season. He came to the team after spending most of his adult life racing late models before getting a chance to race for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
- The Wood Brothers have struggled mightily the past three seasons with Harrison Burton, with only one top-five finish since 2022. However, before that, the team made two Playoff appearances in five seasons and never had a driver finish worse than 20th in points. Berry is seen as a driver who could return the team to those days.
- Fans are happy to see Berry continue in the NASCAR Cup Series. However, many wonder if this was the best opportunity he had on the table, with Bob Pockrass reporting last week that Berry was in the running at Front Row Motorsports.
