Hailie Deegan REPLACED for Chicago Street Race

What’s Happening?

On Monday afternoon, AM Racing announced that two-time Cup Series Champion Joey Logano will replace the struggling Hailie Deegan at the Chicago Street Race this weekend with Klutch Vodka sponsoring. Team President Wade Moore had this to say about the move.

The level of competition in the Xfinity Series is as competitive as it’s ever been. It is our goal at AM Racing to field a competitive race team through our technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing and provide any of our drivers the best equipment and opportunity to be successful on track each weekend.

With that being said, we haven’t had the success on track that we were hoping for in the first half of the season. When the opportunity to have Joey in the car at Chicago became a possibility, we felt we needed to take advantage of the knowledge and feedback that a two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion could provide to our teams’ growth.

We intend to take the feedback and data from the Chicago race weekend and apply it to building better race cars each week so AM Racing can have a stronger second half of the season.

• Deegan has struggled from the start of this season, with no top-10 finishes in the first 17 races and an average finish of 26.8. AM Racing hired Matthew Lucas as her crew chief to replace Joe Williams at the beginning of June, and the new pair haven’t recorded a finish better than 25th. No indication was given whether or not Deegan will be replaced for any more races in the future.
• Logano returns to the Xfinity Series for the first time since 2019. He has 30 career wins in 176 starts, including three road course victories, all coming at Watkins Glen. He finished eighth in the 2023 Cup Series Chicago Street Race.
• Fans were anticipating that AM Racing would try something after Deegan’s struggles. However, this is a very drastic change that does not happen very often.
