Also known as Mosport, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park has operated in Ontario, Canada since 1961, hosting everything from stock cars to IMSA and even Formula One.
Even though the track is changing owners, it appears everything will continue as planned at the track, with the press release from the track saying they will ensure “all scheduled activities and operations continue uninterrupted.”
Regardless, it seems that some changes for the long-term future could be on the horizon, as the track is planning to “share the roadmap for CTMP’s long-term development” at the 2026 Canadian International Auto Show in February.
NASCAR and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
NASCAR fans likely know the track for hosting one of the Craftsman Truck Series’ most prominent road course races, and the only NASCAR National Series race in Canada, from 2013 to 2019.
During its time on the schedule, the Truck Series races at CTMP supplied many memorable moments, such as Chase Elliott’s dramatic first National Series win in 2013, Max Papis getting slapped that same weekend, Cole Custer and John Hunter Nemechek’s door-to-door finish and fight in 2016, and Austin Cindric’s bump and run to Kaz Grala in 2017.
The track was scheduled to be a part of the 2020 NASCAR Truck Series schedule, though, after the outbreak of COVID-19, the race was cancelled, and the series has yet to return.
Despite fan support for CTMP to be the track that NASCAR picks to finally bring the Cup Series to Canada, most rumors over the past few seasons have pointed to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as NASCAR’s target location. However, it is worth noting that all of these rumors were eventually debunked.
