What’s Happening?

While Toyotas had a strong showing today at Martinsville Speedway, sweeping the top 3 positions, the same cannot be said for Legacy Motor Club. For much of the day, the 43 and 42 cars ran in the mid-20s to the low 30s. Their day got a lot worse following post-race inspection. Erik Jones’ number 43 team failed to meet NASCAR’s minimum weight requirement. This resulted in a disqualification for the team, meaning that Erik Jones and his crew will be credited with a 38th place finishing position in the official results. Initially, they were credited with a 26th place finish.

  • It was duly noted in the last couple of years how Legacy was lagging behind in terms of performance. During the team’s first year under the LMC banner, they were largely regarded as a back-marker team, even performing well below the standards of other “B-tier” Chevy teams such as Richard Childress Racing and Kaulig.
  • For the 2024 season, the team switched manufacturers. They were hoping that this would be the change in direction that they needed. Unfortunately, the results were much of the same, if not worse. Neither car came close to sniffing the Playoffs in 2024, finishing 29th and 35th in points. However, they showed flashes of speed at times. They were hoping to build off of that heading into 2025 but they’re off to a rocky start.
  • During the offseason between 2024 and 2025, Legacy Motor Club went through a lot of changes in the front office. Jimmie Johnson became a majority owner of the team and he hired new team officials, including Matt Kenseth. Unfortunately, these changes have yet to provide the kind of turnaround the team was hoping for.

Conclusion

Following post-race inspection, NASCAR announced that it was taking the 43 and 10 cars back to the R&D Center. The Daily Downforce will update this story as more details come out.
