Keselowski announced the injury and subsequent surgery through RFK Racing in a statement released Friday afternoon.
Though this is a major injury, and the team has not confirmed he will be ready for the Daytona 500, the 2012 NASCAR Cup Series Champion seemed confident he would race in the event on February 15.
Per the release, Keselowski said, “My attention now is fully on recovery. I’m motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona.”
In a subsequent post to his own X account, Keselowski showed pictures of the break, himself and his family after surgery, and a video of him walking with the assistance of a walker.
Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. Grateful for my family by my side, an excellent medical team, and the ability to take a few steps forward today. Focused on Daytona. Bonus – I'm now bionic! pic.twitter.com/AZD2ejHGgc

In that post, Keselowski said, “Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. Grateful for my family by my side, an excellent medical team, and the ability to take a few steps forward today. Focused on Daytona.”
Keselowski is set to attempt his 19th career Daytona 500 in February, an event he has finished no better than 3rd in, and the race many consider to be the only achievement missing on his stellar resume.
Last season, Keselowski finished 26th at Daytona and would go on to struggle through the early portions of the season, winning no races and ultimately failing to qualify for the playoffs.
