What’s Happening?

NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Nick Sanchez will not return to Big Machine Racing, leaving fans and Sanchez in shock.

  • Many fans and insiders expected Sanchez to race the team’s No. 48 in 2026, with the then-Rookie of the Year candidate telling Dalton Hopkins of Frontstretch he would return to BMR in 2026 on September 27.
  • In a post on social media, Sanchez announced that he is out of his ride. The 24-year-old said he learned over this past weekend and that it was “Unfortunate timing and circumstances, but it’s strictly business.”
  • His past comments resulted in most fans online agreeing that Sanchez’s tone seems to be genuine shock. BMR, owned by record executive Scott Borchetta, has yet to announce its 2026 plans.
  • Sanchez made his name with the now-shuttered REV Racing, winning the 2022 ARCA Menards Series Championship, and two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races with REV in 2023 and 2024. Following his promotion in 2025, Sanchez was one of three Rookies from the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ stellar 2025 class to win a race.
  • While Sanchez would be a top name on any free agent market, for the most part, the majority of top rides in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series already have drivers for the 2026 season.
