Today marked the beginning of the long-awaited trial between 23XI Racing, Front Row Motorsports, and NASCAR.
The first day of the trial began with jury selection, with the two sides reaching a conclusion of seven men and two women from a group of 23 prospective jurors.
Though this may seem rather boring, there were some moments of excitement, with both sides’ legal teams proposing the use of visual presentations in their 75-minute opening arguments. This move was not appreciated by Judge Kenneth D. Bell, who, Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports reported, was “perturbed” by this.
Judge seemed perturbed that both sides’ proposed visual presentations for opening statements included inadmissible evidence or arguments so he banned all visuals and exhibits from opening statements.

During opening arguments, those in the courtroom reported that both sides stressed common things from early filings in this lawsuit. These items are familiar to those who have kept up with the case.
There were some notable claims, such as 23XI/FRM lawyer Jeffery Kessler reportedly claiming that 23XI is only profitable due to co-owner and NBA legend Michael Jordan’s celebrity and business connections.
On NASCAR’s side, attorney John Stephenson notably mentioned the recent lawsuit between Legacy Motor Club and Rick Ware Racing, in which LMC claimed that RWR was reneging on a record-breaking $45 million sale. In his opening statement, Stephenson mentioned that this suggests the three charters formerly owned by FRM and 23XI, the center of this lawsuit, are valued at over $1 billion.
